HISTORY

Everything started in 1982

Benoit et valérie Calvet

We innovate today

to enrich and build tomorrow’s tradition.

The firm Benoit Valérie Calvet arose from an encounter in 1982 between two young graduates, Valérie Bataille and Benoit Calvet. After several years in Dubai, they returned to Bordeaux in 1985 to create their wine trading company, based on the experience of Patrice Calvet, Benoit’s father and an independent trader since 1975.

For over 30 years, Valérie and Benoit, constantly driven by numerous projects, have perpetuated the family history together so as to show French, Spanish and Italian wines in all their splendour, combining tradition, modernity and innovation.

DEVELOPMENT

A creative duo

bouchons
We have succeeded in developing our business by following our intuition, blending seriousness, creativity and an open mind.

In 1988, we created our first Le Voyageur® brand, enabling us to extend the firm’s export network from Japan to the United States.
Bouchons
The success story continued in 2009 with the Spanish brand Toro Loco®, now known around the world. Almost 20 years and hundreds of medals later, it is a true ambassador of the Utiel-Requena appellation which is exported remarkably well to around 20 countries.
Some years later, we decided to register the trademark BX® in order to market Bordeaux wines. Once again, the brand is exported globally.
In 2015, we launched Garmence®, customized micro-productions available as limited editions, adapted to e-commerce and to millennials.

We do of course continue scrupulously with what is still our DNA, namely the selection and marketing of vintages and Châteaux from the beautiful Bordeaux region.

These projects form part of a flourishing portfolio of high-quality wines which we constantly adapt to the evolution of the market and of consumers.

This English agency was created in 1975 by Patrice Calvet, Benoit’s father. In 1993, it was taken over by the firm BVC and it contributes to the deployment and the marketing of our wines on the British market.

BVC BODEGAS

This new blending and taste creation centre arose from an encounter between Benoit Calvet and producers of fine wines in Burgundy and in the Rhône Valley.

“Many families, one spirit”

This combination gave rise to one Châteauneuf-du-Pape, 13 Cépages®, and a whole range of exceptional wines, being exported to England and as far away as Australia.

This Spanish company, founded in 2014, allows us to supervise and maintain the production of Spanish wines. This structure likewise makes it easier to register the brands with the Consejo Regulador.

BVC Bodegas has allowed us to become a producer and bottler of Spanish wines with the Utiel-Requena designation of origin.

Maison Benoit Valerie Calvet Rhône

For the last 15 years, we have worked closely with three families from Tuscany, Sicily and Venice to supervise the production of our Italian wines.

From the Amarone della Valpolicella to the Nero d’Avola and including the Chianti Classico, they are all intended for export.
